It’s that time of the year when we work late, frantically prepare and man the battle stations, yes that’s marketers preparing for the festive sales.

The holiday period brings about many key days including Thanksgiving, Black Friday, Cyber Monday, Hannukah, Christmas Eve and Christmas Day. Whilst some of these are US holidays, they have started creeping into other countries including the UK. Here is a Brits guide to Black Friday.

According to Deloitte online sales and mail orders are expected to increase by 13.5%. To put that into perspective, holidays sales last year in the US alone reached a staggering $46.55bn. Mobile sales are expected to account for 33% of online sales in the US.

In the UK Boxing Day tends to the busiest day for online sales, with tablets driving a third of sales.

According to Econsultancy, 1 in 5 US and UK did ALL their shopping online in 2013.

Consumers are being influenced by various social media platforms and they are shopping across devices. Marketers have to take all this into account if they are to make the most of the holiday sales.
