The guys over at digital marketing agency, Return On Digital have put together an infographic, titled: Is your social media campaign on track?

It is a friendly reminder of some hints and tips for LinkedIn, Facebook and Twitter to consider when implementing your social media campaign.

Their social media executive, Tim Grimes said “Social is still really new in the grand scheme of things, and is evolving all the time. We know from experience what techniques are more likely to work for SMEs and which ones could be harmful to their brand image. With more than 900 million users on Facebook, approximately 360 million users on Twitter, and at least 161 million LinkedIn accounts, these growing networks can be targeted for business leads and sales with the correct strategy.

However, without an effective strategy and an understanding of their customer’s online behaviour, it could be a waste of valuable business hours.”

The key part of what he said is ‘understanding of their customer’s online behaviour’, you need to understand your own customers, there is no one social media strategy that fits all, you have to tailor your strategy to your own customers.

For example “Avoid posting (tweets) after 8pm”, if you are targeting a global audience then you need to consider time differences and will have to post after 8pm, it may be a better option to have localised Twitter accounts, but it isn’t always possible.

Again “Avoid posting (on Facebook) at weekends”, if your B2B then maybe it is wise to not post on the weekend, but if you are B2C then why wouldn’t you post on the weekend, perhaps vary the type of content you post on weekends.

The key is is to test and learn what works with your audience.
